Australasian modular hotel and housing developments are making significant strides.

Australasian modular hotel and housing developments are making significant strides. In Western Australia, Swedish modular company SIBS, through its Malaysian production arm, has secured a second major hotel contract. This project involves a 302-room, two-building hotel in Port Hedland, with modules being manufactured in Penang for delivery and on-site assembly. This follows a previous contract for a 212-key hotel project already in progress. Meanwhile, in New South Wales, the state government is actively implementing Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) for social housing.

Recently, three fully finished modular homes were delivered in Shellharbour within approximately 14 to 16 weeks from planning approval, with a fourth home on the way. This is part of a larger initiative involving around 90 homes in the MMC pipeline across Greater Sydney and regional NSW this year. This contrast between offshore volumetric hotel manufacturing for resource and tourism hubs and domestic modular housing driven by government procurements highlights a developing ecosystem. Both exportable volumetric capabilities and government-backed housing demand are gaining significant momentum.
